MIAT Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Forum
The Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is the future of air transportation, which is expected to solve the urban congestion and the environmental issues. Many countries have been embarking on Urban Air Mobility (UAM). For a complete UAM ecosystem, there is the need for Electrical Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) vehicles.
Malaysia was not left behind, a few companies are now working on developing the eVTOL, the Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) system, and the landing sites for the eVTOL, which are the VERTIPODS. There are also ideas to go further than UAM into Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), which is championed by Volar Air Mobility. The Volar Air Mobility vehicle is a fixed wing aircraft powered by an electric engine. The AAM will be flying between regional airports and landing strips around the country as the last miles for the eVTOL. The public may have heard of UAM but most of them may not have a clear understanding of the UAM and the whole UAM ecosystem. As an academic institution, it is our duty to provide the platform for an open public forum to discuss the UAM current development, gaps, challenges, and ecosystem. The objective of the forum is to explore the current development of the UAM and determine the gaps, which can be of interest for academic study and more importantly the entrepreneurs' sources of opportunities.
