Constructing a China-Malaysia Community with a Shared Future: Opportunities, Prospects and Challenges
The International Conference on “Constructing Malaysia-China Community with Shared Future: Opportunities, Prospects and Challenges” was held on November 1, 2023, at V. E. Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The Conference was organized in partnership with the Institute of China Studies, University of Malaya, and the Research School for Southeast Asian Studies of Xiamen University of China. It was supported by both the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia and the the Office of the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia.
The Conference featured 15 speakers from both China and Malaysia and the papers presented revolved around three themes: economic and developmental collaboration, cultural and civilizational mutual understanding, and managing common security challanges. Topics that were discussed in the Conference included the Malaysia-China trade and investment trends, Belt and Road Initiative, the Green Silk Road, Islamic-Confucian dialogues, Global Security Initiative, and the South China Sea dispute. YB Liew Chin Tong, the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, and Minister Zheng Xuefang of the Embassy of China in Malaysia, gave the opening remarks to the Conference.
