Regional Online Workshop on Nuclear Responsibilities in East Asia

In Northeast Asia, the nuclear issue is often considered a deadlock, from the early challenges in denuclearizing North Korea to the eventual acceptance of its de facto nuclear-armed status. There is also the possibility that South Korea and Japan will go nuclear. As there is no regional framework to address critical security issues, we would like to start building a platform to facilitate dialogue among the countries in the region and encourage norm-making and norm-building, beginning with the notion of “Nuclear Responsibilities”.

This inter-regional dialogue aims to foster dialogue between nuclear-armed states and non-nuclear armed states in East Asia in a multi-track setting and to provide holistic consideration of regional nuclear norms. The groundwork for future dialogues on Nuclear Responsibilities will be laid, especially among Northeast and Southeast Asian nuclear-related stakeholders.
